A followup question from Rep. Nygren to the DOT about raising fees on bicyclists has been answered in a recent Legislative Fiscal Bureau Paper on Transportation. In the paper, proposals from Washington and Oregon are cited, and an example $25 fee is used to estimate potential revenue at $2.4 million in 2015-16 and $4.8 million in 2016-17. It is important to note that none of the proposals in other states have been adopted according to the latest reports from those states.
Wisconsin’s Joint Committee on Finance will be meeting on Thursday, May 21 to take up this issue. Also on the agenda is the issue of repealing complete streets, which the Governor has recommended in his budget, as well as state highway project funding and potential revenue options.
