4th of July Weekend Recap

Not much by way of news, at least not the news I’m interested in.

GENERAL

RHYTHM AND BOOMS HAS A “GOOD” CROWD AND A “SAFE” EVENT
Had the same thing happened say, downtown, would the report be the same?

Madison police reported several fights and minor disturbances that resulted in six arrests for disorderly conduct and battery. Also, one person was arrested for driving while drunk, and there were three people taken to drug detoxification centers.

Drug detox centers? Disappointment as there were not many ground scores.

CHANGES AT THE ECHO
It’s been a while since I”ve been there . . .

ST. RAPHAEL’S SCHOOL SOLD BACK TO DIOCESE
I wonder how much ol’ Cliffy made on that deal? And what new horror of a development project he might invest that money in?

CAUSE OF FIRE UNDETERMINED
This is two blocks from my house and as I was watering my plants the other day I ran into a neighbor who used to live there . . . makes you wonder, would you want the fire department to let you in? I was surprised when I went to the Farmer’s Market on Saturday to look up and see a plant sitting one of the windows. I wonder how long before they know what caused it? Here’s info about if you want to make donations.

CITY

MONROE ST. IN THE CORNFIELDS
But no grocery. Why don’t they just give them a Trader Joe’s and get if over with. 🙂 That’s what happens when you sell people dreams, they buy into it and fight hard for it. Could it end in a recall effort for Council President Lauren Cnare?

TABLING SOON TO BE ALLOWED ON CITY STREETS
It’s about freaking time. Did we really need to spend time on going to court over this? Again, what’s so scary about information?

ALDO AT COUNCIL TONIGHT
This ought to be interesting to see where people come down on this one. Glad to see there are a few more people opposing it at this point.

BAN THE SPRAY PAINTERS?
There have been dozens of complaints in the last few years. That doesn’t really sound like that many . . . .

GEESE GONE
Just like that.

WILLY STREET BUSINESSES STILL HERE
Come on down! People certainly are not having trouble finding the Tenant Resource Center this summer.

COUNTY
COURT HOUSE WINDOWS TO BE WASHED, FIRST TIME IN 5 YEARS
$3,600. Wow, that’s county news for ya.

SCHOOLS AND UW
ED HUGHES DISSECTS KAUKAUNA’S SUCCESS POST-WALKER
A good look at impacts of the budget repair bill and its impact on collective bargaining.

MADISON SCHOOLS TO LOSE EXTRA $2M
$6.7M in state aids loss.

STATE

SILLY SEASON IN MONONA
Last debate in the 48th, maybe.

PUBLIC FINANCING GONE
Program was weak, so now its just gone.

PROSSER THE VICTIM
Yeah, right. Bradley’s next just attacked him!

PRO-LIFERS ENCOURAGED
More bad legislation for women on its way?

WILL DOWNTOWN CHILDCARE DISAPPEAR?
It was subsidized by the state, since 1991 when Tommy Thompson started funding it.

VOTER ID – IF YOU WAIT FOR IT
It only took this woman 1 hour and 51 minutes . . . I’m glad she waited, but how many will? Who has that kind of time during the day?
