WHY DOES IT KEEP CHANGING?
Well, the first changes were a result of the police department and city attorney’s office contacting the Campaign Zero staff and getting changes made.
The second changes were the result of activists contacting the Campaign Zero staff and letting them know they were looking at 2015 policies, not the current policies.
WHAT’S NEXT?
I have to revise this report based on the latest revisions. PSRC Eight Can’t Wait Analysis 2nd draft 8 12 20 and the Public Safety Review Committee (PSRC) will be reviewing and making recommendations likely similar to the President’s Work Group, OIR and the Ad Hoc Police Policy and Procedure Review Committee. In short, the Madison Police Department still has work to do and policies to revise. By the time the Civilian Oversight Committee meets and the Independent Monitor is in place, they will likely make the recommendations again. Maybe someday the needed changes will actually happen?
