A Sign of Things to Come

Sorry, no more services for the poor and people in need.

We’re used to the Section 8 waiting list being closed at both the city and county effectively making needed low-income housing not available for new people. We’re used to there being long, long waiting lists for Alcohol or Drug Abuse making it difficult to get people into services when they decide that they want to make changes in their lives. But, here’s a new one and likely just a sign of things to come . . .

DCDHS Payee Linda Rasmussen will be retiring on April 28th, after 17 years of dedicated service in Economic Assistance and the Payee Unit. Linda has truly been an asset to the Payee Unit and she will be greatly missed, though we wish her all the best in her retirement!

Due to the budgetary climate and current hiring freeze, we are uncertain when/if we will be able to fill her position. As such, the Payee Unit will be closed to all new admissions (including pass through) until further notice. Fiscal Assistance (846-7058) provides private payee services for a nominal fee and may be a viable alternative.
