Troy Drive Historical Society Storage Project

Update from the community meeting.

Greetings:
More than 50 Northsiders attended the meeting Thursday night at the Warner Park Center. Of those who submitted written comments afterward, 16 opposed the museum storage facility proposed by the state for location at 402 Troy Dr., next to Troy Gardens. Ten were undecided and one supported the plan — which would consist of a two story building that would be 60,000 square feet on the first floor and 36,000 on the second.

Objections were several. Most said that a better site for the facility would be on the grounds of the Mendota Mental Health Institute, on the site of one of the vacant buildings. Others spoke passionately about the loss of green space that would result. Still others objected to the proposed zoning change, from conservancy to limited manufacturing; some feared what else might end up being built there if the state administration changed its plan after the zoning was changed.

The City Council will consider the zoning on May 17th during a 6:45 p.m. hearing. It would be great if you could come to state your opinions. Also, it would be helpful if you could e-mail all of the following: allalders@cityofmadison.com, cityclerk@cityofmadison.com; and mayor@cityofmadison.com

Thanks very much for your concern about this plan.
Anita Weier, 18th District alder
