28 Demolition Notices This Year . . . So Far

I’ve been kinda slacking on the demolition notices, so here there are since January 1, in case I missed some. Will remain more vigilant moving forward. In all, there 28 demolition notices so far this year. If I got this right, it is 7 multi-unit residential properties, 9 single family homes, 8 commercial buildings plus the Bethel House and St. Paul’s Chapel and 2 vacant lots. Some of the information is pretty vague. I find this interesting because one would think that every time someone wants to tear something down its a huge issue, but its quite the opposite. Seems like hardly anyone notices most of the time.

We recently purchased the property located on 3030 City This property has two interconnected buildings on it which has been very poorly maintained over the past several years. There is asbestos and lead paint and evidence of water damage and mold throughout both buildings. Given the present condition of the buildings, we believe it would be in the best interest & safety of the community to demolish both buildings and then maintain the land as a temporary open space.

At an Informational Presentation to the Plan Commission on November 22, 2010, St. Paul’s University Catholic Center presented its plan to demolish the existing St. Paul’s Chapel and adjacent Student Center to build a new St. Paul Catholic Center and Residential College at 723 State Street. The existing church, originally built in 1909, was significantly remodeled in 1967 as a predominately concrete structure and connected to the adjacent wood frame structure which serves as a student center.

The bldg is energy inefficient, has roof structural issues, and the exterior walls have leaks, and severe condensation issues. It has been unoccupied for 2 years. All HVAC equipment is in need of replacement.

I have owned the property since 1976. It was a rental unit prior to my purchase and I continued to use it as a rental unit. The house was built in 1923 and does not take advantage of lake views. I would like to build a new single family craftsman style home on the lot, for my personal use. The new home is designed to fit into the neighborhood and to be appropriate for the lot size.
