Thursday Morning Round Up

Day two . . . of attempting the return of the round up.

LOCAL NEWS

DEFOREST SCHOOLS GONE MAD?
Um, $26,000 raise for school administrator while programs cut? Huh?

ATC POWER LINE CONSTRUCTION TO START IN DANE COUNTY
Some updates. And a new on proposed. Lots of meetings throughout Wisconsin.

THE NEW URBANISTS ARE COMING, THE NEW URBANISTS ARE COMING!
Long, in depth article from Mike Ivey. Last night I asked a developer what was so great about Madison to show off, he listed a few things (Middleton Hills, Grandview Commons) and then talked about the mistakes in each of them.

POLICE BRUTALITY IN DANE COUNTY
I guess so, Sheriff Deputy fired for punching someone in the jail. Man arrested on State St. and then takes a trip to the hospital.

SEPTEMBER RIDE THE DRIVE CANCELLED
Can’t say I care. Others might, but the events seems redonkulous . . . but then again, I live downtown in the partially trapped zone and spend the day watching cars drive down one way streets the wrong way waiting for an accident because they have no stop signs.

MAYOR DAVE ON CITIES AND VEGGIES
I thought maybe he was seeing the light and thought a community garden on library was a good thing. Instead, he sings the praises of paved roads. Somewhere, Michael Barrett’s head exploded, I’m sure.

VILAS ZOO RABIES SCARE
Very limited, to a small play area for less than 2 hours.

That’s it for local news . . . so I’m adding state news and of course, the things that don’t make the news . . . otherwise the round up would be very small.

WISCONSIN REDDER?
Can Republicans steal Wisconsin? The threat of redistricting and what should be done about it.

STATE CUTS TAX CREDITS FOR THE . . .
RICH?? Of course not, the cut the credits for the POOR!

ANOTHER RECAP IN RACE TO REPLACE PARISI IN ASSEMBLY
I like how this one ends! 🙂 I wasn’t there, but apparently when it comes to the environment there were more differences, some that people didn’t think were so subtle.

$163M to be repaid in November?

INPUT NEEDED ON DANE COUNTY PARKS AND OPEN SPACE PLAN

Dane County Land & Water Resources Department Seeks Input for 2012-17 Dane County Parks and Open Space Plan

The Dane County Land & Water Resources Department (LWRD) has been in the process of gathering input from local units of government and County residents for the update to the Dane County Parks and Open Space Plan. The plan must be updated every 5 years to remain eligible to apply for Wisconsin DNR Stewardship grant dollars. The plan also identifies significant natural, cultural and historical resources to be protected as well as future park, recreation and trail needs.

“I encourage everyone who has a stake in our natural spaces to attend a listening session this month and bring their energy and ideas,” said Dane County Executive Joe Parisi. “Dane County is the fastest growing county in the state in part because of our great quality of life. It’s important that we put together a plan that will enhance all that we have to offer to residents and visitors.”

Dane County Parks will facilitate 4 public listening sessions throughout the County each Monday in June to present draft recommendations being considered for the update to the plan. Sessions will be held at 7:00pm at Town halls in Albion on June 6th, Windsor on June 13th, Mazomanie on June 20th, and Perry on June 27th.

“Dane County Land and Water Resources staff undertake a very extensive public outreach approach to gather ideas and input on recommended updates to the plan, these meetings allow us to let everyone hear what changes are being proposed to the plan before it is adopted,” said Darren Marsh, Parks Director.

More information regarding the 2012-17 Dane County Parks and Open Space Plan is available on the County web page for review including an online feedback form at:
