BLOGGITY-BLOG ATTACK LAST NIGHT AND NEED HELP!
I had a little blogger attack last night and decided to empty my blog folder as much as I could . . . so check the blog for redistricting updates, Mayor Soglin’s comments about Monday’s Protests and the Police, trapping in Dane County Parks, County to put campaign finance reports and statements of interest on-line?, capitol events going on today and tomorrow and focused deterrence, the latest police strategy craze.
I still have to do several other posts I haven’t caught up on like the budget overview Dean Brasser did, the community services process review, the council meeting Tuesday night, the development process review council discussion at CCOC and the delay of the bus route changes, issues with the new parking system downtown and audio bus ads. I did the easiest stuff first. Work meeting tonight, so when that is done, hopefully I’ll catch up on everything else I couldn’t get done yet . . . or at least part of it.
I’ll renew my call for blogging help, if you want to help cover some of this, please let me know – cuz its not really getting covered by the main stream media – its up to us! You don’t have to be as thorough as I am, a paragraph or two summary would we great! We can post it for you, or give you your own log in! Post as little or as much as you want.

ANOTHER REASON I LOVE PAUL SOGLIN
Check out his Ride the Drive post. He gets it. I kept saying that during the election, but he just gets it.
When Ride the Drive was first established it was done, unlike comparable city programs, without city council approval which means it was not subject to the same reviews. In addition the city, by law requires that all programs that require an expenditure of $5,000 or more be approved by the city council and be in the city budget. It does not matter if there are off-setting revenues, this is the law. No matter how noble the cause I think you agree with me the rules were meant for everyone.
That’s the Mayor I voted for, and the Mayor I hoped we would get! He sends staff and community back to the drawing board.
PUBLIC MARKET REBOOT
Sadly, the Public Market is suffering from somewhat the same problem as Ride the Drive. Popular idea. No public process and buy in to create it. So, a committee will be formed as they back up and do over. Expect more of this to come. It’s how Madison gets things right.

Each year, young people in our community help DCHS in many different ways. They conduct food drives, put up posters of available animals, and run lemonade stands on hot summer days to benefit our homeless animals. This is our way to say thanks to our current young friends and connect with new young animal lovers.
This event is free, but donations such as bleach, canned dog food or cat food, and empty aluminum cans will be happily accepted to help the animals!

Paddlers in their own canoes and kayaks are also welcome to join the tour.

MERGER OF 911 CENTER AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT IN DANE COUNTY?
Dane County Supervisor Paul Rusk has announced that the Public Protection and Judiciary Committee will hear testimony on the proposed merger of the 911 Public Safety Communications Center and the Department of Emergency Management on Tuesday, June 14 at 5:45 p.m. in Room 357 of the City County Building. All interested parties are invited to come and participate.
According to the 2011 budget, this merger cannot occur until the County Board passes a resolution authorizing the merger. A study committee made up of Supervisors Paul Rusk and Carousel Bayrd, Public Safety Communications Center Director John Dejung, Emergency Management Interim Director David Janda, Director of Administration Travis Myren, and County Executive Chief of Staff Josh Wescott have been meeting to examine all issues.
“We value the perspectives of local emergency response agencies and of the general public on this issue,” said Supervisor Rusk. “I really hope people will come out and tell the committee how this merger may affect them,” he added.
Supervisors Rusk and Bayrd, respectively, are the chair and vice-chair of the county’s Public Protection and Judiciary Committee.
