Can’t deny it any longer, winter is here. But looks like it won’t last long. No need to move your cars.

A Bit Slippery Out There

Our 28 salting and sanding crews have been out since around 1:30 am this morning. Salt and salt brine is being applied to our salt routes, which are our main arterials, main connector streets, streets that Madison Metro runs on and streets around schools and hospitals. The little more than 1/2″ of snow is just about coming to an end and we expect a little warmer conditions today than yesterday with temperatures in the lower to mid 30’s.

Currently the streets are slippery. There is a little layer of melted snow under the fallen snow due to the warmer temperatures of the ground that initially melted the snow when if first fell before freezing into a thin layer of ice. All this means is that you should use good winter driving techniques when you drive and break early and be cautious at all times.

We will continue to salt and plow our salt routes until they are no longer slippery and the snow has been plowed off of them. We will not be plowing the residential streets with this little bit of snow that has fallen. We will also be sanding the hills, intersections and curves until Mother Nature takes over and melts what has fallen.

We are expecting sunshine and temperatures in the lower 40’s on Sunday so this snow should be all but a memory by later tomorrow.
