So, I was so pissed off about the Director of Planning and Community and Economic Development Director’s comments, I forgot to do my daily update on having NO PLACE TO GO! This was briefly discussed at the council last night, I will get a full report on that tomorrow, but for now . . .
UPDATES
There is still no place to go. There is no plan. Right now, for the people living at Token Creek, there is no hope. The thought of returning the street without fire, electricity, porta-potties and community is taking its toll.
We were hopeful that we would be able to take our application from 2132 Fordem Ave. and keep it open for another place that was the same price, but not as exciting. But we have been asked to withdraw our application and start over, so it will be months before we will find a building for people to be in.
The county is allegedly setting up a meeting with us on Monday . . . I guess that is progress, but a little late!
Wiggie’s resolution for an extension, I am being told, is dead in the water. You never know, but I won’t hold my breath.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
The Community Development Authority is supposed to be housing of last resort for people in desperate situations. Currently, there are long waiting lists to get into the housing and now they are talking about removing the preference (gets you in quicker) if you are homeless or a victim of domestic violence. Check out these waiting list times:
listed off () are as follows:
1-Bedroom Unit (Disabled Designations) = 12+ Months
1-Bedroom Unit (Age 62 or older Designations) = 3 – 6 Months
1-Bedroom Unit (Age 50-61, no disability) = 12+ Months
1-Bedroom Unit (No Designation) = Indefinite wait time
2-Bedroom Unit = 1-2 Years
3-Bedroom Unit = 1-2 Years
4-Bedroom Unit = 1-2 Years
5-Bedroom Unit = 1-2 Years
Yeah, that’s the housing of last resort. In November one of the guys at Occupy (on Lake View Hill) was told 4 months, he is 62 or older (i.e. lucky.) but he still doesn’t have housing.
What are our answers to this problem? Continue to stick our heads in the sand?
