Garbage and Recycling Pick Up Early

4 AM!!!!!

Early Start for Refuse and Recycling Crews

Due to the usual high volume of material being placed at the curb for collection during the downtown move out, the Streets Division will begin refuse and recycling collection at 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 14, and Thursday, August 15. A decision on whether crews will also start at 4:00 a.m. on Friday will be made on Thursday.

“We are beginning to see large volumes or refuse, recycling, and large items coming out to the curb for collection,” said Madison recycling coordinator George Dreckmann. “In order to get this material collected in a timely manner we are going to start all of our crews at 4 a.m. the next two days.”

“The early start allows our crews to get a significant amount of material collected before traffic becomes a problem,” Dreckmann said. “Not only do we have to collect material on high volume streets like Johnson, Gorham, and Williamson, we also have to deal with a large number of vans and trailers that make it hard for our crews to get around on other streets.”

Private haulers must still abide by the normal 6:00 a.m. start time set by ordinance.
