SALVATION ARMY WINTER POLICY

Winter weather is here and I wanted to send out an email reminding advocates of The Salvation Army’s protocol for “cold weather” nights. Right now, it is looking like Tuesday (11th) will be one of these nights.
On nights of extreme weather conditions or cold (20 degrees or below) all families and single women in need of shelter are welcome to use shelter despite usual capacity and shelter night limits. Space may be crowded but we will not deny anyone who is in need of our Emergency Family Shelter and Single Women’s Shelter.
For those who need to stay in our Single Women’s Shelter, they may call 250-2226 daily and there will be an automated message stating whether or not it will be a “cold weather” night.
For those who need to stay in our Emergency Family Shelter, families can call-in as they normally would to express need for the night. Families must call the toll-free Housing Crisis Hotline at 855-510-2323 (option 3) before noon and express need for shelter that evening. All calls are returned to interested families between 12pm and 1pm to confirm their space in shelter. If a family does not have access to a phone, families may add their name in-person at The Salvation Army.
Doors open at 5pm each night and dinner is provided except on Saturdays, due to our Community Meal, in which dinner is served at 4:20pm.
Please note: Behavioral issues may result in suspension of shelter access even on “cold weather” nights.

So, if there are “behavioral issues”, people should just freeze to death? Where can people go if they are in this situation? I can’t even offer for them to sleep on my porch any more. To the City-County Building I guess . . . unless they have kids, then the next option might work.
NEW SHELTER
We are open for emergency over night housing for women with children and families up to no more than 25 to 30 people per night.
