There are 5 committees looking at the Mayor’s bench ordinance – so far two have voted. So far, both have UNANIMOUSLY voted against it. 3 committees left to go.
Funny, no reporters in the room when either of those actions happened. I have the audio of both, but even I missed the EOC voting against it.
So, to recap what has happened so far:
8/11 – Public Safety Review Committee refers the ordinance to their next meeting to remove major portions of the ordinance. Mayor attended the meeting and spewed his contempt for the homeless.
8/13 – Equal Opportunities Commission voted unanimously against the ordinance. Susan Schmitz of Downtown Madison Inc fame (i.e. their lobbyist) abstained. Didn’t vote against it? Mayor attended and spewed his contempt for the homeless.
8/20 – Downtown Coordinating Committee refers the ordinance out of deference to the mayor not being able to be there, at the Mayor’s request.
8/25 – Joint City and County Homeless Issues Committee votes against it unanimously. Mayor was a coward, didn’t appear. Didn’t even ask for it to be referred that I know of.
What’s next?
9/10 – Community Development Block Grant Committee and Public Safety Review Committee will be meeting to discuss.
9/17 – Downtown Coordinating Committee will be meeting
10/6? – Council?
What can you do?
All the contact info for committees and elected officials are in this post. You know what to do with those, right?
There was a reporter from WIBA there last night.
