In response to the shocking sexual assault on the Capitol City trail last Saturday Morning, local residents of the Marquette Neighborhood have organized a Take Back the Bike Path event on facebook on Thursday, 9/17 at 7pm meeting at Burr Jones Field. So far, over 1,300 people have designated they are “going”. The event description reads:
Early on the morning of 9/12, a homicidal misogynist raped and attempted to kill a woman along the Capitol Trail Bike path, near Livingston. Join us on Thursday to take back the bike path. We’ll march from Burr Jones Field to Central Park to show solidarity with the victim who survived against the odds and denounce this horrible crime in our community. We’ll paper the trail with anti-rape signs and stickers and take back the bike path that should be safe for each and every one of us at any time, day or night. If you’re a cyclist, bring your bike. Everyone should bring flashlights, signs, and your righteous indignation and heartache about what has happened here. Let’s heal together and take back our bike path.
There will be an organizational meeting Tuesday evening. Contact me If you are interested in attending and offering assistance, and I will forward your contact information on to the coordinator of the event.
UPDATE: The starting location is Burr Jones Field – 1820 E Washington Ave
