The struggle over neighborhood grants continues. I’ve worked with others to try to increase funding for neighborhood grants over the years. And for a few years, we had more money available for neighborhood projects. Last year, and perhaps the year before, the mayor reduced it back to $50,000 with the excuse being, as it has been in the past, that there weren’t enough projects. Apparently, that is not the case. This year there were 21 applications with $104,500 worth of applications. Given the relatively small amount of money, the fact that it usually leverages volunteer work and aids with neighborhood pride and organizing, it’s a shame that funding isn’t available for some of these projects.
I’d recommend: Increasing the funding back to $100,000
