2.5 Days to Talk About Homelessness?

Or at least a portion of 2.5 days. I know I’ll be taking 2.5 days off work to attend . . . And can I just say, shittiest marketing ever, why would ANYONE want to go to this or understand its importance. It looks like a conference where you might learn something, but it doesn’t tell you why they are doing it. To create the 10 year plan to end homelessness. Its not about how it “jumpstarts and streamlines how a community develops or updates its plan to end homelessness”. And wow, at first I thought it was about how a community develops OR how it updates its community plan. I think they mean – develops or updates – its plan to end homelessness. In fact, it was initially sold as “they are doing out 10 year plan to end homelessness”, but that has shifted.

I’m wondering if they ever consider having Community Shares of Wisconsin participate in these things . . . or does everything have to be all United Way, all the time? I’m tired of their agencies getting preference. What about the 60 agencies that are not United Way? Why do their 90ish agencies get preference?

What is a Charrette?

A CSH Charrette is an intensive planning process that jumpstarts and streamlines how a community develops or updates its plan to end homelessness. It provides an opportunity for collaboration among diverse stakeholders to solve community problems related to homelessness within a very short period. For each issue area, the room is set up to surround a “fishbowl” of panelists. The panelists’ discussion, prompted by questions that target solutions to the issue areas, lasts about an hour. The observers are asked not to comment or ask questions during this time. Following the fishbowl, a CSH facilitator encourages the observers to respond to what they heard and provide their own expertise.
