West Wilson St. Reconstruction

The City will host a second public involvement meeting for the reconstruction of W. Wilson St. between Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and S. Hamilton St. The meeting will take place at the City-County Building, Room 351, 210 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Madison, WI 53703, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 20, 2017.Several options for the reconstruction of W. Wilson St. will be presented and discussed at the meeting on March 20, so that the input from the neighborhood, businesses and other stakeholders can be taken into account when making a final decision as to which option will be presented to the Board of Public Works and Common Council. The different options that will be discussed will include options on improved bike facilities and impacts on the street terraces and trees as well as potential impacts on the on-street parking.
The project is currently in the preliminary design phase with design completion anticipated in May 2017 and construction anticipated for either fall of 2017 or spring of 2018. Information regarding the project can be found on the project website:

Hi TLNA!
It was so nice meeting some folks at the TLNA meeting last week. Thanks for sharing your time! I am opening 702WI at 702 East Johnson Street @ Blount St (previously Juneberry).
702WI is a co-working space for writers and an author event space. The open house is Saturday, March 25th at 5, and the first monthly author event is Tuesday, March 28th (Jami Attenberg). Not really a meeting but . . .
Your input is needed! Police Department says it wants your opinion! Probably not from readers of my blog, but I’d give it to them anyways.
The City of Madison Madison Police Department Policy and Procedure Review is an outgrowth of the work and recommendations of the Madison Police Department Ad Hoc Review Committee, which is itself a body of volunteers and residents appointed by the City to address issues of concern regarding police-community relations.
The committee was also tasked by the Mayor and City Council to participate in the process of hiring experts to conduct a comprehensive outside review of the Madison Police Department as a constructive means of identifying strengths and areas of potential improvement. The City Council agreed with and authorized the review.
Throughout 2017, OIR Group will perform a multi-faceted review of MPD that will culminate in a public report of findings and recommendations.

I had trouble with the answers they gave me for their questions. I answered them, but I didn’t feel like the canned responses were the feedback I really wanted to give. Here’s some examples:
Q: Does the MPD do an effective or ineffective job of keeping your neighborhood safe?
A: My neighborhood is safe, but its not because of what the police do.
Alot of the other answers seemed designed to get to the answer that most police officers are good people. There’s no way to say yes to that, but that there are also some rotten apples.
Do MPD officers deal with people fairly regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity?
– How do I say good on sexual orientation and BAD on gender identity when the question is lumped together
Do you think that positive community relationships are a priority for MPD officers or not?
– The PR machine is in FULL frickin’ swing . . . but is what they are doing working? Is there something else they should be doing?!?! It’s definitely a priority . .. but what does that really mean? And is what they are doing effective?
Do you think the public currently does or does not have effective ways to communicate with MPD about ideas, concerns or complaints?
– Depends upon who you are and where you live. West side has it all, if you own your house the police will stop by and check on it while you’re on vacation . . . is that how I want the cops spending their time, hell no. Is it effective for those folks, hell yeah. That’s what they want. They effectively communicated that and got what they wanted.
As you can see . . . I had a hard time with this survey . . . best not to think too much when answering the questions . . ..
While MPD is seeking input . . . meetings are being cancelled!
