CAPITOL NEIGHBORHOODS/MANSION HILL HAPPY HOUR

Greetings!

Please join Capitol Neighborhoods at the (slightly after) March CNI Happy Hour! Organized by our neighbors in the Mansion Hill member-neighborhood, all CNI residents, family, and friends are invited to join us.

The Plaza Tavern, 319 N. Henry St., home of the World-famous Plazaburger!
Wednesday April 3, 6-8PM
Note that attendees will be responsible for their own food and drink. We thank our friends in Mansion Hill for putting this together! While the Happy Hour overlaps in part with the regular monthly Mifflin member-neighborhood meeting at Central Library, we hope everyone at that meeting will join us when it ends just a few blocks away.
In other exciting, upcoming news, please remember to vote in the Spring election on the day before the Happy Hour! If you have any questions about the local election occurring on April 2, or want to know your options for early voting over the next few weeks (voting absentee), please visit the link below:
Have any questions about the Happy Hour or Capitol Neighborhoods? Please don’t hesitate to contact me at President@CapitolNeighborhoods.org.

HOMEOWNERS, ARE YOU INTERESTED IN A GRANNY COTTAGE?

The Design Coalition Institute has a survey out about interest in accessory dwelling units. They have made a lot of headway in raising interest among financial institutions. The survey information will be used to identify potential interest in adding ADUs. Please consider taking it.

WATER UTILITY PFAS MEETING SATURDAY MORNING

We are hosting a PFAS discussion this Saturday. Please feel free to share meeting information or the Facebook event page below with anyone who may be interested in coming.
https://www.facebook.com/events/1070873226454917/

Join us on Saturday, March 16th from 9:00am – 10:30am at the East Madison Community Center with representatives from Madison Water Utility, Public Health Madison Dane County, and the Wisconsin Dept. of Health Services as they discuss the detection of PFAS chemicals at municipal Well 15 on East Washington Ave.

Enter your address here to see water quality information for the wells that serve your home:
http://www.cityofmadison.com/water/waterquality/mywells.cfm

This is your opportunity to ask any questions you have about the safety of our drinking water and the effects of PFAS on our environment. Spanish and Hmong interpreters will be at the meeting.

Speakers: Joe Grande, Water Quality Manager, Madison Water Utility; Doug Voegeli, Director of Environmental Health, PHMDC; Jeff Lafferty, Environmental Epidemiologist, PHMDC; Rob Thiboldeaux, Toxicologist, WI DHS.

MWU will temporarily rely on other well facilities to serve the Well 15 area as it waits for a recommended PFAS standard from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. The recommendation is expected this spring.

WANNA LEARN TO GROW MUSHROOMS?

We’re scheduling our annual Mycomorphosis mushroom log plugging workshops for 2019. If you’d like to come learn about how to grow mushrooms on logs you are invited to join us for a 3 hour shift in McFarland WI. During your time you will learn the specifics of cultivation, gain hands on experience using all the tools needed for inoculations, and get a mushroom log of your very own to take home that will produce mushrooms for 3-5+ years. The workshop is free due to the work-trade you’ll be providing with your volunteer shift.

We’ll be plugging mushroom logs on 4/6, 4/7, 4/13, & 4/14 this year. We’re doing 2 shifts per day 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm with a maximum of 4 volunteers per shift since we’ve found that a crew of 5 has the best flow. If you’re interested in joining us please let us know at mycomorphosis.madison@gmail.com with your 1st and 2nd preferences of days & times and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

These workshops will take place outside unless it rains so we ask that everyone wear appropriate clothing and bring some water to drink. Also, we will be inoculating logs with 4 different species this year: shiitake, oyster, lion’s mane, and olive oysterling but we will only be offering shiitake or oyster logs for take home.
