Here’s the snow emergency info and the email telling downtown alders that they plan to tow if you get a ticket tonight and for the next few days.

Hi, all

Tow trucks will be out tonight towing alternate side parking violators after they had been ticketed.

Also, since we are towing, the Clean Streets Clean Lakes violators are also likely to be ticketed and towed through the week.

Of course, any time a parking rule is not followed, the vehicle could be towed.

SNOW PLOWING EMAIL

The City of Madison has declared a snow emergency. Citywide plowing operations will begin at 10:00pm tonight. Alternate side parking restrictions will be in effect throughout the entire City of Madison.

Thirty-four Streets Division crews have been out since early this morning when the snow began treating the salt routes and applying sand to residential areas.

When the citywide plowing begins, approximately 150 pieces of plowing equipment will be deployed to plow every street in Madison. The equipment comes from the Streets, Parks, and Engineering Divisions and heavy equipment contractors.

Plowing takes 12 to 16 hours to complete. Madison has nearly 1,800 miles of traffic lanes that need to be plowed, and it just takes a long time to get to them all.

When on the roads during a plowing operation, be sure to give the trucks out working on the roads the space they need. Also, it is common to encounter temporary mounds of snow blocking side streets, or see plows drive up and down residential streets a few times. This is all part of the process of looping through neighborhood streets to push all of the snow from the roads to the curb.

All roadway users should expect to encounter snowy, slippery roads tonight.

Monday may be snowy and slippery, too. Plowing operations may not be complete by the time the morning commute is underway, and there are cold temperatures forecast to arrive as the storm winds down. When temperatures dip below 20 degrees, salt at the rate spread by the Streets Division becomes less effective. This could result in some snowy patches along salt routes.

When on the roads this evening and planning your Monday morning commute, be sure to plan for extra travel time. Be slow. Be patient. Be alert. In general, make good choices.

Streets Division staff will continue monitoring the roads and the weather. Plowing, sanding, and other clean-up operations from the storm will continue throughout the day on Monday as well as the second night of the snow emergency.

SNOW EMERGENCY DECLARATION EMAIL

The City of Madison has declared a snow emergency on February 9, 2020.

This means alternate side parking restrictions will be in effect this evening starting at 1:00 a.m. for the Snow Emergency Zone as well as the rest of the City of Madison.

Citywide plowing operations are scheduled to begin at 10:00pm tonight, February 9. The initial phase of plowing operations take 12 to 16 hours to complete.

The snow emergency will remain in effect until at least 7 a.m. on February 11, 2020.

All Madison residents are encouraged to choose off-street parking options for their vehicles and trailers starting today February 9 and lasting through February 11. Fewer obstacles in the road means plowing operations will be safer, faster, and more complete.

Again, individuals who park their vehicle in the Snow Emergency Zone overnight must abide by alternate side parking rules during the declared emergency. Those who do not follow the alternate side parking rules may be ticketed and towed.

Parking on the Street Tonight (Sunday 2/9/20 into early morning of Monday 2/10/20)

All residents who must park on the street tonight (the evening of February 9 into early morning of February 10) need to have their vehicles on the EVEN house numbered side of the street between the hours of 1am and 7am.

Violations of the alternate side parking rules are punishable by a fine of $60 throughout the entire City of Madison. Violators could also be towed.

Parking on the Street Tomorrow Night (Monday 2/10/20 into the early morning of Tuesday 2/11/20)

Vehicles parked on the tomorrow night (the evening of Monday, February 10 into early morning of Tuesday, February 11) should have their vehicles on the ODD house-numbered side of the street between the hours of 1am and 7am.

Violations of the alternate side parking rules are punishable by a fine of $60 throughout the entire City of Madison. Violators could also be towed.

Other Parking Information

Residents are reminded that all daytime and signed parking restrictions will be enforced. That includes restrictions that ban parking on selected blocks in the downtown area and on the near east and near west sides. Parkers should pay attention to all parking signs.

Parking will be available in the cashiered sections of city-owned ramps in the downtown area. During a declared snow emergency you can park for no charge at the City ramps from 9 p.m. until 7 a.m. If you enter before 9 p.m. or leave after 7 a.m. you are liable for any parking charges before 9 p.m. and from 7 a.m. until the time you leave.

Be aware that vehicles stored in city ramps longer than 48 hours are subject to being ticketed and towed. Meters in lots and ramps are enforced 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Parking is also available at the Brittingham Park Shelter parking lot off of W. Washington Ave.
