Yesterday the mayor notified the alders that they have a new Madison Metro General Manager.
One would think that you would have to have the common council approval before welcoming a new staff person who’s contract has not yet been confirmed. What would happen – and I’m not saying it would – but what would happen if they voted the contract down? I mean, besides massive lobbying from the Mayor’s office for reconsideration. Another rubber stamp situation for the Council – I’m certain they were not consulted or asked for input in this matter. Seems like alders should at least be asked to be on interview teams and participate in the selection of major department head decisions.

Subject: Welcoming Justin Stuehrenberg
Dear Alders –
Please join me in welcoming Justin Stuehrenberg, PE as the new Metro Transit General Manager. We are excited for the leadership he brings to the team. He comes from Indianapolis where he was the Vice President of Planning and Capital Projects of the IndyGo system. There he led the team responsible for implementation of the Red Line BRT, building one of the largest electric bus fleets in America, and implementation of a new account based-fare collection system. With earlier engagements Justin was also involved in route restructuring for the IndyGo system.
Justin comes at a critical time in Metro’s journey. He will help Metro negotiate the rapid changes associated with our Covid-19 response. Later, he will use his extensive experience to build a more modern system that responds to the transportation needs of our region.
He shared the following: “I am excited and honored to have this opportunity. Madison Metro is recognized nationally as an exceptional transit system. I look forward to working with elected officials and quality Metro staff as we move forward the MetroForward initiatives.”
Justin is scheduled to start the week of May 4th and will work closely with Interim Manager Natalie Erdman through the transition. His contract will be before the council for confirmation April 21 and May 5, 2020.
Sincerely,
Mayor Satya
No surprise here. BRT IMPLEMENTOR.
Madison has 4 streets that serve bus routes through the Isthmus. Good luck wasting money on a transit system that just needs to be tweaked. So 52 card pickup again for Madison. Gee, we never seem to forget about how the Isthmus has and will always have a choke hold on transit. Here is an issue I have in regards to how fffed up Metro is, the outbound stop on Midvale at University is HORRIBLE and UNSAFE, the rear door exit goes onto a muddy tree root exposed hill. Been bitching about it for quite awhile. Nothing has been done. BUT a whooping shitload of money is going to give us a MUCH needed 60 ft bus to zoom around from East Towne to West Towne. A teeny little concrete pad has them wringling their hands. WTH will changing the needed infrastructure for those 60 footers?
