Both the Madison City Council and the Dane County Board elected new leadership yesterday at their “organizational” meetings.
City Council
The Common Council met virtually at 6:30. Video here.
Alder Max Prestigiacomo was sworn in as the new alder for the campus area.
They took three votes on council leadership.
Extend the current President and Vice President for three months.
This was proposed by Keith Furman. They couldn’t vote on this by secret ballot, so here is the vote:
No – Carter, Foster, Henack, Kemble, Rummel, Skidmore, Tierney, Verveer, Abbas, Baldeh
Yes – Evers, Furman, Heck, Lemmer, Martin, Moreland, Prestigiacomo, Albouras, Bidar.
McKinney passed, then when called on didn’t answer after several attempts. Eventually Bidar points out there are 10 no’s and it fails any ways and they move on without her vote.
Council President
Alder Zachary Henak nominates Sheri Carter, Syed Abbas seconds it.
Alder Lindasay Lemmer nominates Arvina Martin, Patrick Heck seconds it.
There is only one vote, Alder Carter gets 11 votes, Alder Martin gets 6 votes and 3 people don’t vote at all.
Vice President
Alder Paul Skidmore nominates Alder Abbas. Samba Baldeh seconds.
Alder Patrick Heck nominates Alder Keith Furman, Alder Donna Moreland seconds.
There were two attempts at voting due to some on-line issues. There are 13 votes for Alder Abbas and 7 for Keith Furman.

All 37 Supervisors took their oath of office one by one for the newbies, the people returning were done as a group. With 11 new faces joining the county board.
The pre-ordained leadership were nominated unopposed and elected unanimously.
