With $93 of the $95 Million already named how it will be spent, the county board is looking for input. Two meetings tonight to weigh in.
While technically the money hasn’t already been spent, the county executive has made big promises in the press. I blogged about this the best I could with the information available to the public at the time, but it seems that I didn’t quite get all the pieces, at first I thought there was $54M left for the county board to discuss, then I figured out it was $12M, but apparently, its $2M? I also had a few opinions of my own about how its being spent, particularly $24M on hotels for people without homes.
Don’t forget to register 30 minutes in advance of these meetings!
PRESS RELEASE

COUNTY BOARD SEEKING PUBLIC INPUT ON COVID-19 FEDERAL FUNDING
The Dane County Board of Supervisors is seeking public input on funding priorities related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dane County has received $95 million from the federal government as a part of the CARES Act. The CARES Act provides assistance for state, local, and tribal governments navigating the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak.
At a special meeting last Thursday, the Board heard from the Dane County Controller, as well as the Director of the Human Services Department, on initiatives to date, and how the funding is being spent. The county has already allocated funding to important initiatives to address urgent needs, including support of the Second Harvest Food Bank, local businesses, and child care providers, in addition to providing safe shelter for homeless individuals and families.

“The County Board has approved initiatives to address immediate needs. That said, we know that the need stretches far and wide during this unprecedented public health crisis. We want to hear from the public about their priorities,” said County Board Chair Analiese Eicher (District 3).
Over the course of the next several weeks, the County Board’s standing committees will be discussing priorities for the federal funding. Please send your thoughts on priorities, needs, and suggestions to engagedane@countyofdane.com, with the subject “COVID-19 Priorities”. The responses will be shared with the members of the Board and inform their consideration of future allocations.
