This segment used to be called the round up, but that’s also the name of the local news summary on the front page, so I gave it a fresh look!Loyal readers will remember this feature as the segment where I add information about things going on around Madison and Dane County that I don’t have a link for, but I thought people would want to know. It’s mostly a copy of the many emails that I get about community events and city and county news. My goal is to do it at least weekly.
This edition is jam packed, I may have to look at doing this twice a week!
KONKEL ROUND UP IS BACK!
Look on the home page after the most recent blog posts and you’ll find a summary of local news from bloggers, print, radio and tv news. Here’s a sample!

The next public information meeting for this watershed is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Aug. 27, 2024, via Zoom. Prior registration is required.
Aug. 27, 2024 Public Information Meeting Registration
This meeting will cover the updated solutions modeling for the Spring Harbor Watershed Study, which began in June 2022 after the completion of the original Watershed Study.
The original Spring Harbor Watershed Study Final Draft Report, dated October 2021, received 58 comments and over 100 individual questions during the comment period. A breakdown of those comments can be seen in the charts below. In order to address the feedback from residents effectively the City completed additional watershed computer modeling. The goals of this additional modeling were to provide additional information on the selected solutions, explore alternative solutions, and create a near-term plan for the Spring Harbor flood mitigation projects.
With the modeling completed, the City will present its findings at the August 27th, 2024 public information meeting. The presentation will cover the City’s modeling process, and a near-term and long-term plan for the Spring Harbor Watershed mitigation solutions. There will be breakout groups at the end of the meeting to discuss the proposed solutions.

PROJECT UPDATE: SHEBOYGAN/SEGOE REDESIGN
Location: 4715 Sheboygan Ave.
Estimated Schedule: April 1, 2024 – October 31, 2024
August 8, 2024 Update
Work on Sheboygan Avenue is complete, and the base layer of asphalt has been laid on Segoe Road. Restoration is also nearly complete on Segoe Road. Over the next couple weeks, the contractor will work on replacing key median sections with lower, rolled curb for better fire access to Segoe Road. When that work is completed, the final layer of asphalt will be laid, pavement markings and signage will be placed, and the project will be finished. We are still targeting an early September opening day for Segoe Road, but construction may continue beyond that on the BRT station at Segoe and Sheboygan. Thank you to everyone for your patience during this construction process.

PLANT WORKSHOP FOR YOUNG GROWERS
Plant Workshop for Young Growers
If your family has children between 10-17 or know families who do, please help spread the word that PSGSC is hosting an event geared to inspiring the next generation of plant scientists. While it is possible to earn a plant science merit badge for those who are BSA members, participants do not need to be BSA members to attend. If you are interested in helping volunteer with PSGSC please fill out the volunteer form on the attached volunteer flyer.PSGSC is pleased to announce the return of a former event! Past councils have hosted the “Plant Science Merit Badge” workshop, we’re excited to announce the return of the merit badge workshop as part of a larger event: the PSGSC Plant Science Workshop. This daylong event is open to scouts and any interested youth in the Madison area. Students aged 10-17 are invited to learn all about plants! From plant life cycles and pollination to diseases, workshop sections led by UW-Madison plant-affiliated students and staff will offer an in-depth, hands-on experience exploring flora.Even with its expanded audience, this event is designed to fulfill the BSA requirements for the “Plant Science Merit Badge.” Participants can achieve this by completing a homework assignment prior to the event (provided to BSA participants 3 weeks before the event), actively participating at stations throughout the day, and submitting a completed worksheet at the end of the day.The event will be from 9am to 4pm on August 24,2024, at Moore Hall (1575 Linden Dr. Madison, WI 53705). There is a $15 registration fee for attendees and chaperones to aid in covering the expenses of t-shirts, pizza, and supplies for the day. We are capping the event at 60 attendees to ensure that participants have ample opportunities to participate and engage with group leaders and recommend registering as soon as possible. To register, please scan the QR code on the attached poster or visit this link. For more information, please visit our website or email us at psgsc@rso.wisc.edu with any questions or comments. We’re excited to once again be working with local youth to inspire the next generation of plant enthusiasts.
RIDE THE DRIVE (IS STILL) THIS SUNDAY
It’s the Return of Parks & Open Streets! (Wednesday)
Hello there, Ride the Drive enthusiasts. It’s just me, your friendly Ped/Bike Outreach Specialist, who was given the reins on sending emails to the Bike Madison email list and made one mistake in that inaugural email. This is good! Get that first error out of the way early on. And it’s likely none of you even noticed as it could only be seen in your subject line in your inbox.
All said, please be assured Ride the Drive is THIS SUNDAY August 11 from 10a-2p. See you then!
It’s the Return of Parks & Open Streets! (Wednesday)

Madison BCycle has you covered and are offering a 50% discount on their monthly pass for all Ride the Drive participants. Check out a Bcycle using the promo code RIDETHEDRIVE2024 and enjoy rolling down John Nolen Drive, Regent Street, and Willy Street in electric assist style.
