New Traffic Signals on Mifflin Bike Path

This sounds like a good idea to me! Public input needed Tuesday.

On the agenda for this Tuesdays Ped/Bike is a discussion about the Mifflin St Bike Blvd (C7) . As part of this we are going to be seeking Ped/Bikes approval of a traffic signal at Mifflin and Webster and a HAWK signal at Mifflin and Blair.

The signal at Webster will be a standard signal that will allow all users to avail themselves to the operation of the signal.

The HAWK signal is a new type of signal with interim approval to use Nationwide by the FHWA. The hybrid signal will only interrupt Blair St traffic. It will not control Mifflin St., Mifflin will still be controlled by the existing Stop signs. This reduces the impact to Mifflin St by reducing the likelihood that motorists will begin using Mifflin as a bypass parallel route to E Washington and it reduces the delay to people using Blair. It’s also important to keep Blair functional to encourage traffic to use it versus Johnson St.

We are on a tight time line here because we want to get this work done yet this year. To meet this schedule we need to get it to Ped/Bike asap so we can get into sync with CE and the BPW and CC approval process.

There are no assessments planned as part of this.

  1. Who is the “we” here–how do we get involved on this? The info on ped/bike/mv’s 6-22-2010 agenda is one line long…

“C.7. Approving Mifflin Street bike boulevard traffic control at Webster & Mifflin and Blair & Mifflin”

  2. I think you get involved by showing up to the meeting on Tuesday. This is the extend of the information I know. It was forwarded to me, presumably because my alder isn’t that good at sharing information like this. That wasn’t much notice and it looks like they are fast tracking this. The email was from city staff.

  3. I don’t know how PBMV commission meetings are run, but the public comment instructions say you can “make a [3 minute] presentation on an item which [you] would like the PBMVC to consider at a future meeting”.

Which sounds like sorry, too late. But, I’ll go anyway because I’m like that. Mike Verveer has an email in to city staff to send me some updates about what’s going ok. My Arabic class is not meeting tonight so now I can stay later at the meeting if needed…

  4. They allow 3 minutes for items not on the agenda, in addition to 3 minutes on the items on the agenda. It should be the same for all committees. We tried to standardize it.
