The Mayor’s New Aide

I wonder if he hires anyone that is not a state employee or not from out of state?

Not sure what to make of his pick. Here’s a bit more info than you’ll find in the news:

Subject: New Mayoral Aide — Chris Klein

I’m pleased to announce that Mayor Dave has appointed Chris Klein to replace outgoing Mayoral Aide Joel Plant.

A Marquette graduate with a degree in criminology, Chris was most recently Chief of Staff to Wisconsin Department of Transportation Secretary Frank Busalacchi. Before that, he served as the executive assistant for the Department of Regulation and Licensing. Chris also served as government relations staff at Martin Schreiber & Associates, and worked for U.S. Senator Herb Kohl, former U.S. Congressman Jerry Kleczka and former Milwaukee Mayor John Norquist. He has an impressive background in city, state and federal government with broad experience in public policy. He will make a great addition to the Mayor’s office. His resume is attached.

He will generally be taking over Joel’s issue portfolio of public safety and neighborhood issues, and will be covering transportation issues as well. A revised list of staff issue areas will follow.

Chris will start on Monday, July 12th. Please welcome him to our team!

On paper, it does look like a good hire, but what does he know about the city and city government, shouldn’t that be a criteria you look at? Anyways, here’s his resume. I’m still stunned Larry Studeville didn’t get the job, he seemed to be the “go to” guy for quite some time.
