Near Eastsiders, Watch for Brown Water Starting Today

They’re turning well 8 back on . . . Thanks to Dan Melton for this information:

At the June 29 Water Utility Board meeting, Water Utility staff said they were going to turn on Well 8 (Olbrich sledding hill) on Monday July 19.

So on Monday, and after, pay attention to the water that comes out of your tap.

Do not drink discolored water.
Do not cook with discolored water.
Do not prepare infant formula with discolored water.

If you have a color, taste or odor problem with your water, call or email the Water Utility–report it.

If you don’t take the time to report it, the Water Utility won’t know there’s a problem.

Tell your neighbors. Not all neighbors are on this list serve–so not all neighbors are going to see this. Let your neighbors know.

To report a problem by phone, Call 266-4654 (During regular business hours)
or 266-4665 (24-hour) (After regular business hours)

Keep these #s handy–near your phone.

To report a problem via email, Go to the Madison Water Utility website,
Click on “Contact Us” (last blue box – to the R)
On the drop-down menu, click on “Ask Us, Tell Us” (Item 4 of 5)
On the Subject line of the contact form, Under “Drinking Water Quality,” choose “Color”, “Taste” or “Odor”.

You can’t depend on color (only) to tell you if your water has elevated levels of iron and manganese in it. Perfectly-clear-looking water can be high in iron and manganese.
But, short of expensive testing, color is an easy, obvious sign.
Actually, if you see color in your water, the color you’re seeing may be microbes–iron on the surface of the microbes (microorganisms) — not particulate iron matter (flakes).
