Long Overdue Round Up, Part II

Still going . . . have some more since I haven’t done this since . . . . last Thursday . . . I can’t believe I’ve been sick for a whole week! Ugh.

HOMELESS WITH A JOB
How do you pull off having a job and going to rehab while being homeless. To me, that’s pretty amazing. And sad. Could you live on $290 ever two weeks? Where would you live?

ILLEGAL VS. ILLEGAL
Guy who pulls gun on schoolmate gets out of jail. People who might do something, deported. That’s not justice.

RETALIATION?
Wait. How could it be retaliation. One gang gets a member killed, then members of that same gang get deported and then rival gang pulls a gun on them and that’s retaliation? Did I miss something? More media sensationalization or just being sloppy? The story doesn’t seem right.

WOMEN, HISPANICS AND BLACKS DON’T GET EQUAL PAY.
Yeah, its still true.
According to COWS, women in Wisconsin earn $0.81 for every dollar a man makes, and, on average, Blacks earn $3.25 and Hispanics $4.05 less per hour than whites. Additionally, 30.7 percent, or nearly a third, of Black women earn poverty level wages.

RICH GETTING RICHER BAD FOR ECONOMY
This is worth reading, here’s a taste:

The researchers discovered an interesting but not surprising fact: in the late 1970s, the richest 1 percent of American families took in about 9 percent of the nation’s total income; by 2007, the top 1 percent took in 23.5 percent of total income.

Here’s the problem, according to Reich:

“The rich spend a much smaller proportion of their incomes than the rest of us. So when they get a disproportionate share of total income, the economy is robbed of the demand it needs to keep growing and creating jobs.

And they don’t invest in America!

MCDONALD’S EXTORTION
At least that’s the way Judy Compton made it sound at the meeting. The quote in the story doesn’t do her justice.

CHUCKLE
This just made me laugh.

THIS IS JUST ODD
At least it wasn’t another exploding house. But it does make you think that maybe it is time for them to think about relocation. (in Madison of course, they have prime real estate and could buy cheaper land.)

POT. KETTLE. BLACK
When we foolishly spend taxpayer money on the Edgewater for temporary union jobs, its good for the economy and important for Economic Development, but when its CITY jobs . . . well . . .

Protecting city of Madison jobs shouldn’t be the goal of efforts to reorganize the arts center Downtown.

The goal should be to improve Overture’s bottom line so it remains a public asset without soaking city taxpayers.

The Edgewater cheerleaders made the goal of the Edgewater all about union jobs. And where was all this tough talk about union jobs from them on the library and Edgewater?

To top it all off, they claim this:

Remind the workers in Milwaukee that the private economy is where the jobs must be created to boost government revenue, pay for public services and reduce the federal debt.

But they really mean this:

You need to offer more enthusiasm for and attention to private employers.

i.e. more hand outs please. Those bail outs for the banks and car industry just wasn’t enough.

Ok – back to work!
