Weekend Round Up

Well, here’s the media’s version, further edited by me, about what you need to know about local issues!

REFERENDA ON 1/2 CENT TAX ON COMMUTER RAIL WON’T MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Cuz, um, that isn’t the plan for the RTA, there isn’t one yet. I support the RTA and I’d vote no.

MADISON POLICE TO BE SUED. TEST CASE?
I wonder how much this will cost taxpayers?

FOOTBALL FANS RUN AMUK
71 ejected! And only 46 are students. 35 arrested and only 29 are UW students. Only 30 were underage drinking, what were the other 41?

BODIES
I always thought this exhibition was gross, but even more so now that regarding the bodies they “cannot independently verify that they do not belong to persons executed while incarcerated in Chinese prisons.”

RESIGN ALREADY
Or do we have to make Governor Jim Doyle take action.

$25M IN TAX CREDITS FOR HARLEY
To save jobs, but not until AFTER the union made concessions. That stinks. I wonder how that might have changed negotiations?

$9 PER VOTE?
That’s how much RoJo spent to win . . . personally.

LOVE THE RAGING GRANNIES!
It’s hard not to.

HAVE YOU GOTTEN YOUR COPY YET?
Bill assures me its ok, I’m not in it. And, “That’s a good thing.”

WHERE’S WALDO
Ok, take this test, find the County Board on the County website. deFelice has a point. When I was asked, I said “I know I found it, but I don’t remember how.” All I know is I hope they take this opportunity to figure out how to make meeting materials more accessible. That’s the improvement I’m looking for. I want to be able to easily find resolutions and ordinance and reports and be able to link to them.

GROUP HEALTH 7TH BEST IN NATION
Really? I don’t have any complaints, but I don’t find it that great either. I’m guessing it says more about how bad other plans are . . .

GEESEPEACE
Alternatives to killing the geese by the airport . . . .

F-Bomb
4 times in on Daily Cardinal . . . article? . . . blog? . . . opinion piece? . . . I was actually interested in the content, but got seriously distracted by the language . . . not because I’m a prude, cuz I don’t care, just surprised to see it on the campus newspaper site. To the topic . . . too bad the Tenant Resource Center and the Student Tenant Union aren’t funded by ASM . . . there is a clear need for tenant resources on campus . . .

SAVING THE OVERTURE ON THE BACKS OF THE EMPLOYEES
If you read my blog post, you already know . . . but Brad Wirtz says it more bluntly here:

If the private operator hired all employees, the costs would go down because full-time permanent employees – including custodians and box-office workers – would become part-time hourly workers with lower pay and benefits, Wirtz said.

MORE BAD NEWS FOR UNIONS
Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery being picketed this morning.
