Hulsey Really Blows It – Not Trustworthy.

Spencer Black rethinking his endorsement. Kristin has a big chunk of the story. Here’s the latest statement:

Voters in the 77th Assembly District received a mailing from the Brett Hulsey campaign on Friday. That mailing contains a prominent quote attributed to me.

The quote attributed to me in that mailing is not my quote. In fact, when Brett Hulsey asked if he could attribute that quote to me (one that I had never written or said) I made it clear he could not since it is not my words.

I am very disappointed that this made up quote was used despite my disapproval.

This is an example why. I never said the statement was fine. I said just the opposite.

I specifically said in my email (which is below) that I write my own statements and you could use a quote from my statement. That was in response to the a statement which you sent me which I didn’t write and never said was ok. You can’t use a statement that I didn’t write. I don’t let people put words in my mouth.

You can’t assume someone says something that they didn’t or a Congresswoman endorses you when she doesn’t

I write my own statements. I will also need to see any picture that is being used.

Since I was minority leaders, I have made a point of not being involved in races where the Republican has no chance. There is good reason for this.

I am making a limited exception in this race because I vote in this district. I stress limited.

Some ground rules:

I will issue a statement in the race, hopefully before I leave next week. You can use a quote from my statement.

I do not want to pictured or quoted or listed in any lit, ad etc which is negative. I’m glad you agreed to this. The same goes for any rationale for the Cassville power plant, which I strongly opposed.

I will not be doing tv or radio or fundraisers. Those are reserved for candidates in district where a Republican could win.

I have told literally dozens of candidates no in noncompetitve districts over the years. I hope you appreciate I am making an exception in this case

Hulsey just keeps digging himself deeper and deeper.

This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. Hulsey has proven himself to be a liar, a cyncial opportunist who has no respect for the truth or the people he aspires to represent. It’s people like him who make serving in public office such an odious enterprise in this country.

I think that a more important issue to be raised from this latest scandal is Spencer Black’s decision to endorse Hulsey in the first place. For all of his great work while in office, his endorsement (tedid though it was) has seriously changed how a lot of people view him. I’m sure he felt pressure from the Democratic Party to do what he did, but that’s hardly an excuse; plenty of other progressive Dems have found it within themselves to endorse the better candidate. I sincerely hope that, for the sake of his constituents and his own legacy, he reconsiders his endorsement ASAP.

Just amazing how low Husley will go. I’d like to see a statement from his camp on this. I’d also like to see a mass exodus by his endorsers. Mostly I’d like to see him lose on Tuesday.

I believe that it is, I saw copies of the emails and Kristin also quoted from them and they were send directly from Spencer:

Black says in an interview that he was “shocked” when he saw the false quote and that he had originally told Hulsey that “I will say what I have to say in this race.”

Black forwarded an e-mail to me sent on Friday morning to Hulsey in which he says this incident is an example of why Hulsey has a “problem with trustworthiness.”

“You can’t use a statement that I didn’t write. I don’t let people put words in my mouth,” Black writes. “You can’t assume someone says something that they didn’t or a Congresswoman endorses you when she doesn’t.”

That appears to be the same email. I doubt it was altered.

Election Day cannot come soon enough for Hulsey. I don’t think his campaign can weather another week long news cycle. Who knows what Monday will bring?
