SNOW PLOWING UPDATES

The next winter storm is approaching and from all appearances will make both the afternoon drive home today and the morning drive to work on Tuesday much slower. Snow and freezing drizzle are expected from this storm with snow beginning and then mixing with freezing drizzle during the overnight hours before ending as a little plain drizzle when temperatures climb above freezing on Tuesday.Snow is predicted to start falling this afternoon just prior to 4:00 pm and will continue during the overnight hours before mixing with some freezing drizzle and then drizzle Tuesday morning. Our current forecast is calling for about 2″ of total accumulaiton in Madison.
Crews will be out this morning and early afternoon performing anti-icing on our main arterials in advance of the afternoon snowfall. We will then have 30 salt routes and a couple of sanders on duty to plow and salt our salt routes once the snow begins to fall this afternoon. We will drop down to 26 salt trucks and 2 sanders during the overnight hours.
At this time, we are not planning to plow all residential streets when this storm is over, as total accumulations are not expected to reach the 3″ level. We will be carefully watching the snowfall totals to see if they do approach the 3″ totals, which would then mean we would then plow all residential streets.
Remember to drive carefully, leave yourself extra time to get to your destination and brake early, especially at intersections and at turn lanes.
