Isn’t Leinenkugel the guy the Republicans drummed out of the Senate race because they thought he was a Democrat? Certainly a lot of partisan purity being demanded by both sides.
No purity, just a hope for honesty in candidates, especially considering he views himself as social progressive/fiscal conservative.
Leinenkugel might have been drummed out of the GOP unfairly by the voters and establishment of that party. However, he clearly self-identifies as a Republican, and conservative one at that, judging by his FB statement. Leinenkugel getting run out of that primary probably was as much about ideological purity as partisan purity. Sure, he worked for the Democrat Republicans in Wisconsin hated most at the time, Jim Doyle. But they also used that as a proxy, through RINOism, for “not conservative enough.”
