About those predictions . . .

How’d I do?

COUNTY EXECUTIVE
VOTE: Scott McDonell
PREDICTION: Eileen Bruskewitz and Scott McDonell

I did say, “I’m going with Bruskewitz, McDonell. But Parisi is right in there too. Tough call.”

I was likely blinded by wishful thinking, but . . . um . . . go JOE!!! There is no doubt I’ll be voting Parisi on April 5th. My one question in this race is, how’d Brandon do poorly?

Zach Brandon 7717
Eileen Bruskewitz 15430
Spencer Zimmerman 619
Scott McDonell 14266
Joe Wineke 12763
Joe Parisi 18066

MAYOR
VOTE: Paul Soglin
PREDICTION: Dave Cieslewicz and Paul Soglin

I’d said: “Who breaks 51%, I think its pretty close, but my gut goes with Soglin. Most people I talk to say that they think Cieslewicz will get 51% but are voting for Soglin and I think there are many people out there like that throughout the City.”

Ahem, for all those people that that prediction was wishful thinking . . . Soglin almost hit that 51% that I thought one of them could reach. I think Cieslewicz is in trouble. I think he thinks so too, given all his political pandering of late . . . .

SUPREME COURT
VOTE: Joanne Kloppenburg
PREDICTION: Prosser and Kloppenburg

Got this one right.

DISTRICT ONE
VOTE (if I could): Lisa Subeck
PREDICTION: Lisa Subeck and Matt Brink

Wow, did I blow that one. Brink only got 85 votes. Came in dead last. What’s interesting about the Lisa Subeck and Brian Driscoll race . . . they were the two that are farthest to the left and least likely to be spouting the Chamber of Commerce rhetoric. I’m surprised by that. Maybe the voters are wising up and not ready to hand the businesses everything they want?

Richard Williams 274
Brian Driscoll 355
Lisa Subeck 820
Danny Thomas 185
Matt Brink 85

DISTRICT EIGHT
VOTE (if I could): Kyle Szarzyski
PREDICTION: Scott Resnick and Kyle Szarzynski

Got this one right, but I was kind of looking forward to seeing how they put Christian von Presing-Barry on a yard sign.

Kyle Szarzynski 174
Scott Resnick 205
Christian von Preysing Barry 36

DISTRICT TEN
VOTE (if I could): Brian Solomon
PREDICTION: Brian Solomon and Tom Farley

Solomon kicked butt! I’m happy for him.
Donvan Nelson 199
Tom Farley 536
Brian Solomon 1367

DISTRICT THIRTEEN
VOTE (if I could): TJ Mertz
PREDICTION: Sue Ellingson and TJ Mertz

As I expected. Sue was in out front and got all the endorsements and a ton of money. But there is 7 weeks left to go.

TJ Mertz 426
Sue Ellingson 997
Michael Lester 85
Micah Berken 75
Write-in 13

DISTRICT EIGHTEEN
VOTE (if I could): Peng Her
PREDICTION: Peng Her and Anita Weier

Hmm, I thought Peng would do better.

Anita Weier 1114
Steven Coleman 276
Peng Her 512
Write-in 7

FINAL TALLY
Konkel: 6 for 8 in predicting the two people who would get through the primary/predictions.
4 of my candidates I would have voted for (if I could) have work to do . . . and the McDonell loss was sad, but we still have a good candidate in Parisi who will be our next county executive. If yesterday was the final, I’d have only predicted 3 of the winners. And, I’m still shaking my head over the poor showing of Matt Brink . . . boy did I blow that! Yikes!

  1. I think Brandon got hurt by the Walker announcement. He came out with a bit of a soft shoe against the Budget Repair bill that hurt him with both conservatives and Dems. Conservatives then sides with Berkie a true conservative and Dems saw Brandon as to soft. This probably gave Berkie an extra 2% and Wieneke and extra 1%.
