With 20 Madison Alders? Is the picture in your head right now this . . .
The Magic Bus
Plans for a bus tour of the 20 Council districts have progressed. Metro will provide free rides on two nights because it’s for a governmental purpose. I proposed Tuesday, Aug. 9 and Tuesday, Aug 23 because they are off-Council nights and few people have meetings. I’m hoping those who do have meetings can go on the other bus ride.
It’s important for Metro to do this at night (non-peak time) and before most UW students return. Therefore August.
The plan is to meet at the CCB at 5:30 p.m. and travel to 10 districts each night. Each alder would submit an itinerary in advance including brief stops at three sites (not getting off the bus unless the group revolts). The alder would explain those sites and also point out other key locations that we pass. We would return at 9 p.m., and those who want to have a late dinner downtown could do so.
I have to know ASAP how many people will be able to — and want to — attend. Then we can decide if this should be a north-south district split or an east-west side. So please let me know by Thursday, by phone to 320-5820 or e-mail at district18@cityofmadison.com.
Thanks. I think it will be fun and help us understand the city as a whole.Anita Weier, 18th District Alder
I supposed, if the Republican Senators can commandeer a bus to escape the protesters, this is only fair, only this time, they’ll have to let everyone on the bus! Have anything you want to lobby the alders about? 🙂
