Mayor Soglin Announces Appointment of Director of Planning and Community and Economic Development

Madison Mayor Paul Soglin today announced the appointment of Natalie Erdman as the City of Madison’s Director of Planning and Community and Economic Development (PCED). Erdman has served as the interim Director since February of this year.

Erdman comes with an extensive professional and educational background including a degree in Real Estate Finance and Land Economics and 15 years experience in real estate development with a specialization in affordable housing development. She worked for banking institutions including US Bank and Citigroup.

As Director, Erdman will lead a department that includes the Divisions of Planning, Community Development, Economic Development, Building Inspection, and the Community Development Authority.

Erdman served as the Executive Director of Madison’s Community Development Authority (CDA) since 2010. The CDA is a redevelopment and housing authority that owns and operates apartments and administers federal rental assistance for low-income households in Madison. The CDA also owns and operates The Villager on Park St.

“As Interim Director, Ms. Erdman demonstrated great leadership,” said Mayor Soglin. “Many members of the Common Council recommended her for this position. Developers and neighborhood groups admire her professional skills. I look forward to working closely with her to achieve a great future for all of Madison in the exciting times ahead.”

“I look forward to working with the Mayor, the Common Council and Department staff to strengthen neighborhoods, create economic opportunities, and to continue making Madison an even greater city for all its residents,” Erdman said.
The Common Council will vote on Erdman’s contract at its meeting on July 21.
