Sunny and 80 degrees today, a little different than yesterday. Today is Friday for me, I’m off to Sturgeon Bay for the Steel Bridge Music Festival tomorrow morning. Bringing my computer (and work) with me and intend to be on-line to keep blogging, but the schedule might be a little off. I’ll be mostly hanging out at the Ladder House if you make it up that way.
LIQUOR LICENSES STILL UNCERTAIN
ALRC had no quorum. I wonder if it was due to the short notice of the meeting? Schumancher should have been back for the meeting, but I didn’t see him on the video that ran with the story on Channel 3.
Ald. Michael Schumacher will be out of the city from Tuesday, June 1 through Monday, June 7, 2010 and unable to attend any meetings.
PLAN B AND STADIUM BAR
Changes also uncertain.
CLEAR’S TAX COLLECTION CONCESSION PROPOSAL
I like the way “Madison” offered a proposal that the alders were informed of after the proposal was made, presumably on their behalf. More here.
PANTS-GATE
Yikes, this doesn’t look good. Why would they suddenly start enforcing the “pants rule” if they hadn’t been enforcing it before? Looks bad and they didn’t seem to offer any explanation. I understand the need to reduce the overtime of bus drivers, and I don’t know why they don’t just hire more bus drivers to reduce the overtime? Meanwhile, what’s up with the questionable enforcement of rules at Metro?
COUNTY BUDGET HAD BETTER PROJECTIONS THAN CITY BUDGET
Sales taxes up. Meanwhile, County Executive Kathleen Falk is holding off on sending out budget instructions to see how things progress. On the city end of things, the Mayor told a group of United for Funding folks yesterday that room tax and investment revenues were down more than projected in the budget and that this, combined with the 3% decrease in property taxes was going to make it difficult for the next budget.
NOW INTERNET READERS CAN HAVE THE INFO
Us second class citizens that don’t want to buy a paper can now read the series on city payroll. That’s ok, I’ll wait, still don’t want the paper sitting around my house and filling the landfills. Here’s yesterday’s editorial along with articles on overtime, retirees, firefighters and the original article on the $15M. Here’s their glossary.
LAMEST OPPOSITION EVER!
Seriously dude? Is this how you negotiate? Makes me wonder what they agreed to on the Edgewater, since we have yet to see the agreement that governs these jobs we’ve been promised. I’m guessing its not a great deal, which is why we haven’t seen it.
JOB CREATION FROM UNEMPLOYMENT
Ironic.
SOUNDS FISHY
What’s going on here? Thieves with a heart?
JED “BUCK” SANBORN
No wonder he misses so many meetings, he’s got a job, runs a business and now bought another one. Will we see even less of him?
MILWAUKEE HISTORIC ZONING LAWS CHALLENGED TOO
Sense a pattern?
OVERTURE UPHEAVAL
City might own it, but what happens to the employees? This all sounds like a huge shell game I don’t understand and the agendas for the meetings today, that came out yesterday don’t help.
OIL DRILLING IN THE GREAT LAKES?
I’d think maybe it was just electoral politics, but I’m afraid it isn’t.
