Since some members of the press kept trying to make a story out of Progressive Dane’s wonderful dilemma of having too many candidates who want to run – I thought people might find this of interest.
Brian Benford essentially stepped aside to let Heidi Wegleitner have the Progressive Dane endorsement, no matter how others might try to spin it. I was there in the meeting and Brian was just being a really classy, stand up guy and being inclusive and encouraging of new people running for office. Cuz that is the guy he is.
Madison – Strong Primary Performance Spurs Key Endorsements for Wegleitner
“I know that Heidi will not disappoint any of you. . . I can’t think of a better person to take on this position or to work together with!” said Supervisor Barbara Vedder. “Amazing…and incredible…a perfect fit for District 2 as well as the County Board!!”
Brian Benford, who represented much of the current District 2 on the Madison City Council between 2003 and 2007, had this to say: “I want to extend heartfelt congratulations to Heidi in her resounding victory for the Dane County Board of Supervisors, District 2. I am deeply comforted in the fact I am going to have an awesome County Board supervisor to follow in the legendary footsteps of Barbara. I can’t wait to vote for her on April 3rd.”
In the February 21st primary election, Wegleitner tallied 1,033 votes. Adam Plotkin received 226 votes and Benford received 161 votes.
Wegleitner expressed her gratitude for the support of Benford and Vedder, “I am honored to receive the endorsements of Supervisor Vedder and former Alder Benford. I have deep admiration for their passionate contributions to our community. I share their commitment to social justice and open and inclusive government and will work diligently to advance progressive policies that make Dane County a better place for all.”
Barbara Vedder’s endorsement is the tenth by current County Board Supervisors. Wegleitner was also recently endorsed by the Teaching Assistants’ Association (TAA). TAA joins AFSCME PEOPLE, Progressive Dane, and the South Central Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO in supporting Wegleitner.
