Eastside locals launch “Boombox The Wasteland”
June 5th hundreds of radios will synchronize to WORT and reinvigorate Union Corners.

Boombox The Wasteland is a live radio broadcast/community event to repurpose and reinvigorate an inactive or abandoned public space with people, music, art and energy. On June 5th hundreds of boombox radios will synchronize dials to 89.9 WORT for the duration of the event. The live broadcast will infuse the day’s activities which include roller skating, sculpture,
planting, dance troupes, parades, grilling, arts and crafts, double dutch, skateboarding and hanging out.
THIS IS A SELF-POWERED EVENT – Batteries required!
Bring food to share, blankets and chairs – most of all – BRING YOUR BOX !!!!! Everyone’s welcome.

1:45-2:00……. Opening Ceremony with FORWARD! MARCHING BAND
2:30 – 2:45… RIAD DANCE COMPANY – Sadira and the Riad Dance Company perform women’s
dances from the Middle East with a repertoire that includes both traditional and contemporary
dances from Morocco, Egypt, Turkey, the Gulf states and Palestine.
3:00 – 3:15….. DANDO MAMBO – Dando Mambo is dedicated to promoting a love for Salsa dance
and music at both social and professional levels.
3:30 – 3:45…. NATYARPANA DANCE – Natyarpana specializes in Bharatnatyam, one of the most
celebrated art forms of Southern India that combines artistic expression with a sense of spirituality.
4:30 – 4:45…. BELLY DANCING – UW BELLY DANCERS
7:00 – 7:30… Closing Ceremony with LIMANYA DRUM & DANCE ENSEMBLE – Traditional music
and dance from Guinea and Mali, West Africa.
