Zoinks! Did I miss something?  Is it real? Is it actually happening? The Transportation Committee is discussing this tonight!

When April 30th comes, almost 100 homeless people will have no where to go. Last night the council tripped all over themselves trying to convince themselves that they really cared about homelessness and affordable housing, but came up with excuse after excuse, helped by city staff, about why they had to vote to evict homeless people from their limited shelter and a place they spend with their new family that they call home.

Late yesterday afternoon we learned of the newest attack on tenant rights. I gotta admit, when the Republicans attack tenants, they do it completely and thoroughly - and the particularly hate Madison, Fitchburg and Dane County tenants. Check out the long list of things they will be changing if successful.

On election night, two influential county board committees met to decide what direction to go on the jail. Well, they claim that's not what they were doing, but lets face it, that is what they are doing. They are having the consultant study some more options. However, they couldn't change which options were studied. So only the one's that were "dictated" by the County Executive, the County Board Chair and the Chairs chose could be considered. Resulting in more wasted jail study money. The committee members repeatedly pointed out why at least the greenfield option was a non-starter. So, if you look at the 2008-2017 before the jail was in the the county capital budget, the capital budget averaged $35,851,962 per year.  Now, they want one project to cost 4-5 times the amount of all capital costs. What will that do to our taxes? I haven't seen the answer to that question.

This is it!  The new alders all ran for office saying they wanted to work on affordable housing.  This is our big opportunity, $11 million dollars will be spent.  Will it make a huge difference, or be more of the same old, same old?  Will we see big radical meaningful changes?
