Round Up & Mo Meetings

A quick round up . . . may need to do another tomorrow once I sort through more emails!

City Week Ahead

No meetings Monday or Tuesday until 7:00 due to Rosh Hashanah, council meeting starts half hour later, dogs in parks policy, cameras in libraries and more.

Salt For Everyone!

You get some salt, and you get some salt, and you get some salt . . . that's right, the city is going to Salt on every single street! "Extraordinary", they say . . . "election season" a.k.a. "silly season, I say. Lakes be damned!

Tenant’s Rights Attack – 33 more changes!

Late yesterday afternoon we learned of the newest attack on tenant rights. I gotta admit, when the Republicans attack tenants, they do it completely and thoroughly - and the particularly hate Madison, Fitchburg and Dane County tenants. Check out the long list of things they will be changing if successful.

School Board Recap

This is disturbing on so many levels . . . primarily from an open government perspective, but also to see the first all female school board act just like any other school board without regard for community is just sad. I can't believe they announced announced the agreement on Friday and called a special meeting to approve it on Monday with little time for the community to react.  OR READ THE LANGUAGE (spoiler alert, they skipped an important detail in the description of the contract)  I'm not surprised, especially with Gloria's disdain for the public, I'm just disappointed.  And not one school board member had a word to say?

Partial City Week Ahead

Looks a little better than usual, perhaps they are trying harder?

No Legal Place to Go . . . 26 days and counting . ....

Occupy Madison, coming soon to a neighborhood near you? Yeah, here we go again! Do you hate this as much as I do?

High Speed Rail Meeting in Madison Tuesday

Council Evicts Homeless Occupy Residents

When April 30th comes, almost 100 homeless people will have no where to go. Last night the council tripped all over themselves trying to convince themselves that they really cared about homelessness and affordable housing, but came up with excuse after excuse, helped by city staff, about why they had to vote to evict homeless people from their limited shelter and a place they spend with their new family that they call home.

Madison Common Council Elections: Closer than we think

It’s October, and we really should be focused only on November, but let’s take just a few minutes to think about the Madison Common Council elections next spring. The December 1st start of the filing period isn’t that far away, and the people who are serious about running are certainly thinking about it right now, but mostly staying quiet until after November. Here’s a quick rundown on where current Council members might shake out.

Who would I vote for? (Brenda Konkel)

I'm one of those people who like to wait for the last minute to decide who I would vote for. I like to see the campaign finance reports to see who's really supporting people and see what last minute "news" comes out of the campaigns. I also like to make sure there aren't last minute shinanigans. So, its about 50 hours before the polls close and here's my choices for the upcoming primaries.

1st (New) Finance Committee

A quick 40 minute meeting, mostly an opportunity for education. The new members of the committee are Keith Furman, Rebecca Kemble, Mayor Rhodes-Conway, Shiva Bidar, Mike Verveer, Barbara McKinney and Donna Hurd.
