T Wall Properties Forgiveness – Council Votes Tonight

T Wall Properties screw up resolution - the city actually makes some money nearly 20 years later and T Wall Properties fails to perform as promised.

Bill White’s Magic Development Memo

Wow, this is just kind of funny now. Bill called me the next morning, then sent me the memo and encouraged me to share it. Here's the bombshell mystery document and my responses to it.

Teacher Pay

I wrote a LTE regarding teacher pay last year, and in Lieu of The community wide education meeting, I thought I would bring...

Portage Rd (Mr. Vang) Land Clean!

Only took me a half day off of work and about 80 miles on vehicles.

Lice . . . A week later . . .

Follow up to this, not much has changed. Apparently, its a public health problem enough to send out an email . . . but not enough to actually solve the problem. I don't get it

Paul Soglin: B-Cycle LLC, Bike Share Program

My question this week. Paul answered, Dave didn't.
Sure, its cool but . . . is it a good idea to make a sole source deal with Trek to provide bike kiosks for the City of Madison at a cost of $300,000 ($100,000 from this year's contingent reserve) to the taxpayer in this current economy? Should there have been an RFP, why or why not? Is it appropriate to use money from the contingent reserve?

Here's the discussion on the budget - kinda live blogged - the meeting lasted til nearly 9:30. Too little time for anything else.

TIF . . . Change our Policies or Not?

The Economic Development Commission recommended a bunch of changes last spring, the council created an ad hoc committee which has been meeting since July to review the recommendations and it seems they are contemplating some changes, but maybe not all those recommended by the Economic Development Commission . . . lets catch up with that conversation. Is the candy store wide open with no one there to guard it? Or are the EDC recommendations falling a little flat.

Are We Really Going To Do This?

$17 - 47M in TIF to redevelop the Government East Parking Ramp and the Municipal Building into a hotel and other uses? Should we spend $8M or $1.5M more in 2014? Or pause while we rethink this? Council votes tonight!
