Homelessness up 35 – 44%, Services Down

So,numbers came out yesterday on the annual count of the homeless in the Madison/Dane County. The numbers are grossly undercounted since we only count in Madison, and there are serious questions about how the count is done, simply because homeless people usually try NOT to be found, so they are likely missed. The increase since 2011 is really disturbing. The simultaneous decrease in day shelter services, especially in the winter, is nothing short of disturbing. No surprise, really, if you follow my blog.

Where County Housing Decisions Get Made

Ugh, the little bit of money that the county does get for housing is determined by CDBG and HOME regulations where HUD requires plans and public input, but I bet you (unless you are a long time housing advocate) have never heard of it. Well, the "public hearing" was last night. I just noticed it yesterday when I was doing the week ahead and then couldn't find the plan that we were supposed to comment on. Sigh. And based on Supervisor Wegleitner's comments, I'm sure they are glad I didn't find it sooner.

Capital Budget Amendments

Ok, I was a little surprised to see 34 Amendments! Election year antics? Doesn't really look like it. Check out this blog for who is spending the most, the least and other comments about this year's amendments. See how your alder did, or didn't do.

County Week Ahead
