City Week Ahead

24 meetings, only 2 agendas I couldn't find. And only 6 meetings before 5:00. :)

How should Dane County Grow?

County Board Chair Scott McDonell shares his thoughts . . . two year moratorium on sprawl.

Madison Schools Week Ahead

2 meetings, one candidate forum.

County Week Ahead

16 meetings, only 6 before 5pm. That's good for the county, the city had that many on Thursday alone.

Madison Schools Week Ahead

Behavior Education Plan and Police in the Schools.

Soglin says “Go Fuck Yourself!”

Yeah, when someone tells him to "stop attacking the poor and homeless" his response is "Go fuck yourself." And admits it on video. At least he's honest.

County Board Budget Amendments (So Far)

The county board budget process is much harder to follow than the city's, but here's what I can figure out at the moment . . . it seems to be constantly changing, so stay tuned. Tonight they consider removing the jail from the budget, tomorrow night they consider planning for a restoration center and Thursday they consider videotaping their committee meetings!

Pre-view of the City Council Meeting

Often there are over 50-100 items the city council votes on in one motion on the council floor unless an alder pulls it off the agenda to discuss - or a member of the public shows up to speak on it. And even when members of the public speak, they hear what they have to say then pass the items without comment. Here's and overview of the meeting and a brief summary of what they probably won't talk about tonight, but we'll find out when the consent calendar comes out later today - I usually post them as "Things the Council with Talk About" or similarly labeled blog posts. So much gets done with almost no comment at this point.

Listen as the Alders Explain Why They Voted for 8 More Police

It ain't pretty. So many of them were waffling more than I have ever seen, most of them listed all the reasons why they should vote no (it won't make us safer), then they voted yes. Check out how your alder did here and then email them and let them know what you think . . .

You Mean I Could Have Been Drinking at the Council Meetings?

Apparently, its against the rules, but the police can't do anything about it without an ordinance. They didn't really talk much about that tho, didn't even question it, it was more about who was stepping on who's toes . . . and the homeless.

Detox: The Other Side of the Story

Something seems potentially duplicitous about Chief Wray's letter that came out at 3:30 on the same day this memo came out from Lynn Green, perhaps they just crossed in the mail, but the timing is a little goofy.

Madison Schools Week Ahead

Just two meetings - but one is the committee looking at police in the schools and the small groups will be finishing their review of the recommendations.
