An Overture Must Read

Former MCAD/201 State Treasurer speaks up . . . Gives the Council his two cents on the Overture . . . a kinda grim outlook. But hey, that's his job, to be the fiscal conservative voice, perhaps they should listen. Prepare to have this conversation again in a few years, he says.

Downtown Plan Passes Plan Commission

Final step . . . common council . . . have you been paying attention? I haven't, I gave up a while ago (and it includes my neighborhood!), I have no idea which changes from the Economic Development Commission and others made it in. Lets find out what the lobbyists have to say about it - warning: they love it!

Last Chance to speak to County Human Services Budget (Part II)

Who knows what amendments might come up tonight or at the county board, you need to be psychic in order to testify on the county budget apparently. They will tell you after you testify, if they let you, what they will be voting on, maybe.

Council Culture of Secrecy

I've only been off the council for 7 years, but I find its culture of open whining about how hard it is to be on the council and its focus on itself instead of issues disturbing. But its culture of secrecy is even more concerning. Just look at the the charge of the committee that came up with the "government reform", and their agendas, and how their minutes are written. None of the meetings had more than 72ish hours notice of the meetings - find out Friday at 4:30 for a Monday meeting for three of them, the other had 30 hours notice. This doesn't appear to be a council that values the public in way shape or form. And I'm not sure what new leadership can do to fix it, given the ingrained culture of the current elected officials.

City Week Ahead – Links are a Scarcity

15 meetings, all start at 5:15 or before, so if you work until 5, unless you drive fast or work downtown, local government is not for you! And good luck figuring out what they will be talking about, there are very few links.
