They're starting to act and sound a little bit like the state. First they only have one night of hearings on the human services budget instead of two like they used to. Then, this morning, I realize that they have limited the public testimony to two people per agency, that wasn't in their press release!

Really, they want us to limit ourselves to 2 speakers per agency tonight? Really?

We'll see if it is anywhere close to accurate.

So, this is Director of Dane County Human Services Lynn Green's explanation of why she recommended defunding the Tenant Resource Center. It's disturbingly inaccurate. I have audio, contracts and other documentation of the details of all this, probably too much detail for some, but due to my obvious conflict of interest in "reporting" this topic, I felt as much back up material as possible was necessary. Obviously, I am biased here - but also, obviously, there are some gross errors in her statements that just can't be denied.

Yeah, that's a bit of a desperate plea. Last Friday we found out $95,000 (40% of our budget) was proposed to be cut from the Dane County Budget. Many of you have written emails and letters in support of our services and we appreciate that, but we need your help on Tuesday! Or, to write emails and letters if haven't already done so! Tuesday is a very important hearing and we need your support!

Argh!!!! You all know my frustrations . . . but it is freaking absurd when I find out about the plan to deal with homeless during the heat wave from two alders via neighborhood listserves instead of communication through the listserve for the Homeless Services Consortium or from the providers themselves. It comes via a forwarded email from the mayor's office. How the hell are homeless people supposed to know what services are available to them - they aren't on these listserves and they don't tell people what is going on!

Hint "more flexibility" = more money in developer pockets while taking away the "benefits" we get, mostly in the form of roads and infrastructure to support the developers building that if TIF doesn't pay for, will need to be paid for by borrowing and we pay it back, with interest. Also, the great benefit we get is added taxes that will help pay for services - except by the time this trickles down to the community services budget - the benefit is barely recognizable and definitely not realizable - it just gets lost in the budget. Hope to see people there tonight saying why we shouldn't leave the candy store wide open.<

Hey homeless people, understand you are at risk, but we can't actually, you know, HELP YOU! Do you understand that? Yeah, you there, sleeping on the square on hard cement or uncomfortable bench, you DO understand its hot and you are at risk, right? What should you do, where should you go - well, we can't help with that. Just know it hot and you are at risk.
