Madison Demands Black Community Control of the Police

8 a.m. today - see you there?

Waiting for MPD . . .

On July 18th I asked Chief Koval if I could assume that they would be looking into disciplinary action for Scott McConnell and Dean Baldukas for their comments calling progressives "assbags", "gloryholing nincompoops" and telling people to go fuck themselves in an on-line petition presented to the Common Council. They said I'd get an answer in 90 days . . . and now policies have disappeared and have been changed. Hmmm . . . and I'm still waiting.

Tenants Rights During the Government Shutdown

This is for tenants that live in federally assisted housing (may include locally assisted housing too) or that get a federal subsidy. Affordable housing funding is incredibly difficult to figure out - but hopefully you know if you are in Project-Based Section 8 housing.

TIF Subcommittee of the Economic Development Committee – Oct 2nd 2012

The Mayor came to the EDC a few weeks back and asked them to talk about TIF policy. The EDC created a subcommittee, which met for the first time on October 2nd. Behind the jump are my notes, and the audio of the meeting. The subcommittee meets again today at 3:30pm in LL130 of the Madison Municipal Building. For extra confusion, this is not the TIF subcommittee that CCOC discussed on October 2nd. No one I've asked can tell me what that committee is going to do that the EDC committee isn't.

Only 20% of City Council Candidates Answer Housing Questions

Yeah . . . I think I see the problem here . . . affordable housing, tenants rights, homelessness . . . apparently they're too busy to be bothered answering questions about such things . . . sigh . . . thanks to the 5 out of 25 candidates that answered the questions. Even though there are some gross mis-statements of fact in a few of the answers. Honestly, tho, in all my approximately 20 years doing this with the Affordable Housing Action Alliance, this might be the worst ever in terms of quality of answers and lack of response.
