Wisconsin Uprising – The Art Show!
Recently, Steve Nass and his spokesman got wind that the UW School for workers was putting on an art show. They then...
City Week Ahead
My attempt to not work 30 hours in 2 days failed, I worked 28 hours, so my blogging suffered as I took the weekend off . . . but here's what I have for the week ahead.
Madison Schools Week Ahead

Good job if you can get it. And we all pay. But...
City Finance Committee Becomes a Development Committee (without Equity Lens)
This agenda has more items than usual, but seriously, it seems like the city has increased its role in development in major ways and the Board of Estimates seems to have as much role in development as the Plan Commission. Check out all these items on tonight's agenda. Too bad we aren't applying an equity lens to these projects yet - the items that benefit the community the most and impact low income people the most have the least amount of money being spend on them, one project actively works against equity and 2 projects that are the biggest ticket items have no direct equity value at all to the city. Where is that equity tool when we need it?!
End Homelessness for Families by 2020
We were supposed to end veteran homelessness by the end of last year (we didn't do so well, here, we are not number one)...
Mayor Calls Emergency Council Meeting
Yeah, more shameless political pandering in an election year. Eyeroll.
Who’s the Most Popular Alder?
Based on last nights elections results for uncontested alders . . . these alders are most to least popular in their districts.
Fruits and Nuts Victory Challenged
Fruits and nuts decision being challenged based on open meetings laws . . . but when similar issues are raised elsewhere, there are no violations that they are concerned about . . . I'm tired of double standards in this fair city.
Madison City Council Won’t Stand Up Against Citizen’s United?
Republican Party applauds them!!! What?! The Democrats on our City Council applauded by the Republicans?! I've been asked to explain and I can't. What happened, this should have been a slam dunk. Is it because the Council knows better than Mike McCabe and the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign? Or, they hate the Mayor? Or, they love the Chamber of Commerce and the Madison Area Builders Association?
Imagine Madison: An Update, What’s Next?
So, the City of Madison is doing its comprehensive planning update that is required every 10 years. This is what drives most development decisions in the city . . . well, this, and TIF and other government hand outs. Where are we at and what's next? And how will you get involved? Unless, of course, you don't care how the city develops (until its next door to you!).
Progressive Dane Statement on Police in the Schools
Progressive Dane has issued a letter to the Madison School Board and the City of Madison Board of Estimates regarding their vote on the contract for police in the schools later this afternoon. We are urging them to have a 1 year contract to allow for the police study to be completed and to allow for more public input. Additionally we are calling for a limit to the actions police can take in the schools, more frequent public reporting and a student complaint process.
