Remember way back when . . . we had just elected a Mayor and County Executive that said they understood and were going to do something about poverty. Do you remember last April? (yes, a mere 5 months ago) Based on the way the budgets are going, at the moment it seems as tho they have forgotten those campaign promises. But even when it comes to non-budgetary items . . . it seems the message has not gotten through, check this out.

The other day I blogged about how absurd running a non-profit can be these days . . . yesterday, I had this chart sitting on my desk and I think I stared at it for an hour, trying to figure out how it got so absurd. A death of a thousand cuts, I guess. Check out the real numbers behind the anecdotes about why nonprofits are struggling, at least for one non-profit I am intimately familiar with.

As the kids start school today there will be lots of "Scott Walker has saved our schools" misinformation running around the right wing airwaves....

Fighting Poverty Coalition, Madison Urban Ministy, Community Action Coalition of South Central Wisconsin, UTI (Union de Trabajadores Inmigrantes), Take Back the Land - Madison, Freedom Inc, Progressive Dane and our many and growing coalition members are speaking up, because this is unacceptable.

Upcoming events, requests non-profits, neighborhood association news, etc. It's been a while, so my apologies if your events have already gone by and I didn't post them . . .

Ok, besides the event at the Labor Temple (see details below) . . . that makes four.

So, um, if the Mayor and alders are getting together with the business community tonight . . . don't you think you should know?!...

Now, more than ever, we need to get creative. But, we can't do that at the expense of the most needy in our community. This is no longer just for budget geeks, this impacts everyone!

Consider me impressed!
