Sorry, that was a little cheesy.

What’s on the Council Agenda Tonight?

Not much?

Budget Reflects our Values?

Yesterday I tried to speak to the common council about how a budget is allegedly a reflection of our values, and I had concerns that this budget is all about the Overture and Edgewater and not what struggling people in the community need. I asked if that really reflected our values, a luxury hotel and high end arts facility. I wasn't that articulate, I was tired and burned out and emotional about it after working too many hours listening to people's stories with so few answers. Fortunately, Heidi Wegleitner said it much, much better than I, so . . . um, what she said.

County Week Ahead

6 of 16 meetings held during the day, again, not "lunch time" meetings. 8:30, 2:30, 3:45, 7am, 9:00, 9:00. And 4 of the major county committees all meet at essentially the same time on Tuesday night.

Fact Checking the N. Sherman Critics.

Madison’s Common Council voted to reconfigure N. Sherman Ave from a four-lane to a two-way with a center left turn lane. During the testimony, several issues were raised by opponents, and rehashed later on talk radio that I would like to fact-check for posterity.

Development Process Review Subcommittee of the EDC meeting, Jan 11 2011

The Economic Development Committee is continuing its work on improving the built-environment development review process in Madison. At its November 29th meeting, the EDC realized that it was hopeless to try and edit this document as a full committee, and appointed a subcommittee to hash out language over the next few weeks and months. That subcommittee met for the first time on Tuesday night. Read on for a flavor of what happened.

What Will the Council Talk About Tonight?

Here you go, its expected to be a short meeting.

The Chamber of Commerce and their “Presumptive Approval”

Yesterday the Chamber of Commerce put out their press release, stating what they think is "broken" with the development process and noting their recommendations. I'm not sure their main recommendation is all that practical or will get them what they want. Talk about unintended consequences.

Short Packed City Week Ahead

24 meetings packed into three days . . . so far.

Fruits and Nuts Victory Challenged

Fruits and nuts decision being challenged based on open meetings laws . . . but when similar issues are raised elsewhere, there are no violations that they are concerned about . . . I'm tired of double standards in this fair city.

It's that time of the year, you've seen the moving trucks and extra garbage on the curbs . . . brace yourselves, here it...
