Breaking: Madison City Council Passes Immigration Resolution

Wow! Unanimous vote for Immigration resolution. Solomon, Sandborn, Clausius, Schumacher and Pham-Remmele absent. Compton co-sponsored even.

Thuy Pham-Remmele to Sheriff Mahoney

What in the world is this about? And why were others cc'd on this?

Join the People’s Affordable Housing Vision!

I lied, I am posting! Here's a quick re-post on an important issue! Come to the meeting on Tuesday, join the facebook page, sign the petition and get involved in real life! Lets get the affordable housing and related services we need in Dane County for the homeless and lets create a truly diversified city and county that supports our families, our schools depend on it!

Are Police Going to Start Ticketing the Homeless for Sleeping?

I wish I had more time to dig into this issue, but here's what I know . . .

Another Police Blacklisting Project?

I missed this one, but now there are at least 3 "collective community bans" the police department has initiated, the one on State St. (Cap Times), the one with the north and east side hotels and one at E. Wash and E. Johnson at the Hawthorne Library area.

Police Policy Review: Use of Force

Well, I started reviewing 450 pages of old and new police policies and then they sent me a different version and its very hard to know where to begin - so I'll start here . . . In the policies I've found lots of things that need review, and a bunch of things that just seem to be missing. A thorough review will take much longer, but here's what I've found so far of concern on this particular policy of interest. Did you know police no longer have to give you a verbal warning before they shoot - as of 3/24/14 and there have been 3 fatal shootings in the past year with this (mew?) policy. All three persons shot were mentally ill, under extreme distress or under the influence of drugs or alcohol. So much for de-escalation

The Partial City Week Ahead

Yeah, there's meetings missing, as usual, but here is what I have before going to work . . . undoubtedly, more meetings will show up. Including the meeting for the Joint Review Board to vote on the Edgewater.

More Bad HUD Cuts!!!

Affordable housing trust fund? Meh. Who needs it?!?!?!?!?!?!

What will the council talk about tonight?

Judge Doyle Square, Judge Doyle Square, Judge Doyle Square and . . .

City Capital Budget: Amendments 1 & 2

More than half the amendments went quickly, until the Edgewater reared its ugly head . . . and the mayor got cranky.

City Attorney Responds to Council Amendments

I think the city attorney concluded that most of the amendments were policy, not legal issues. There are a few notes and comments, but almost all seem ok by him.

JDS: Finance Explanation

I waited 4.5 hours just to here this portion of the meeting. They heard from the public for less than 30 minutes and then talked about minute, boring details for hours, before they got to the important part - and spent (relatively speaking) little time on it. While asking questions after the meeting, there was still lots of confusion by alders, media and on-lookers. But, here was the explanation we got and the answers they got.
