Police Policy Change: Wait For Backup!

Yeah. Chief Koval finally got it, after several people have died, he's changed the policy telling police to wait for back up unless their is a threat to someone's safety (not property).

We need 13 – 361 New Police Officers?

Uh . . . I'm not sure where to begin, but no, you don't Chief Koval. In fact, there could be a plan where you REDUCE officers . . . but when you ask the police to study themselves . . . what kind of answer do you expect? I think every department in the city should be asked to do the same thing. And hell, let's throw in the non-profits too - In fact, I just studied the Tenant Resource Center and we need 3 - 50 new staff people to keep up with the growing needs of tenants who are now more than 50% of the City of Madison. I mean, sometimes we're 400 phone calls behind in the summer and early fall.

County Week Ahead

I still can't find a budget schedule for them . . . has anyone seen one?

Bubbles Update

Services will continue through October and hopefully beyond! While Madison Homelessness Initiative is backing off after creating and running Project Bubbles for 5 years - volunteers are stepping up with time and money for it to continue, perhaps with changes.

Dane County Human Services Budget Summary

Love the bureaucratese - "All shelter, housing case management, information and referral, and food pantry and clothing distribution services are maintained at their 2015 budgeted levels." Funny, cutting 1/3 of the Tenant Resource Center budget makes it feel like something in that sentence is disingenuous. The "services" realistically can't be "maintained" when it comes to tenants in Dane County outside the City of Madison - what other agency has the knowledge, resources and skills that the Tenant Resource Center has?

Catching Up with Oscar Mayer Area Strategic Assessment Report

The City of Madison Common council is about to adopt the report - meaning this will become city policy and directives, so what are they adopting? Here's a summary of the action taken and the summary of the 48 page report. It also includes a great appendix about Equitable Economic Development - which I think is the most interesting part of the report.

Council Discussion on F-35s

The Chamber of Commerce was just one vote away from from preventing the City of Madison from giving input on about the F-35s. Luckily, reason prevailed. And please note, if you think all liberals are the same - that's not true, there are big differences. Some liberals stand up for the Chamber of Commerce, some stand up for the people of Madison, particularly low-income neighborhoods that are impacted by decisions like bringing F-35s to Madison. This is what happens when people aren't paying attention (i.e. not election time, , media doesn't cover things.) And wow, this is either "much ado about nothing" or it IS about something. And I don't think alders would be fighting this hard to not do something unless it somehow mattered.

Occupy Madison Forced to . . . Occupy Dane County Parks

Bizarre twist of events made Occupy Madison accidental Occupiers. The Parks Staff are refusing to take our money - but we keep paying.no legal place It's been a bizarre week, yet again.
